Eh?
Posted July 17th, 2007 by rybolovThere are a ton of kooks out on the internet. We all know this. Hey, for all I know, you might think I’m one as well. =)
But um…. what does HSPD-20 have to do with President Bush serving a 3rd term? This one threw me for a loop. Even the part of me that loves a good conspiracy theory has problems equating “National Continuity Policy” with “4 more years”. You could maybe say that this lays the ground to declare a national emergency and forgo an election, but I just don’t see it.
But then again, I’ve been known to be wrong on very rare occasions.

Yeh, it states pretty clearly right at the beginning:
(b) “Catastrophic Emergency” means any incident, regardless of location, that results in extraordinary levels of mass casualties, damage, or disruption severely affecting the U.S. population, infrastructure, environment, economy, or government functions;
Even with the “terrorist threats” we see, it would have to be a pretty tall order to fill to get this ball rolling. That’s a LOT of shoe bombs.

Even then, there’s nothing about giving the president the ability to rescind the right of the public to vote or delaying an inauguration because of an emergency condition, which is what the nutso blogger was trying to infer.
I think most politicians would say “Hey, it’s a mess, you wanted the job last November, have fun,” and go fishing.
